Weather Underground Expansion Module for WeatherLink
WeatherLink by itself does not send weather observations to Weather Underground. There is an "Expansion Module" written by Weather Underground that adds the Weather Underground upload feature to WeatherLink.
TO INSTALL THE MODULE
- First install The latest version of WeatherLink (minimum version 5.5.1) or upgrade an earlier version.
If you do not already have WeatherLink latest version, you can upgrade from previous versions, goto: Davis Software Support
- Download the expansion module here. Save the WuiWlink_1.dll file to your Weather Link Expansion Modules directory:
The Expansion Modules directory is usually in "C:\WeatherLink\Expansion_Modules".
That is... the file needs to go into a directory named "Expansion_Modules" within the Weather Link installation directory. You may have create the "Expansion_Modules" directory if it isn't already there.
- Quit and restart (or start) the WeatherLink application.
- Goto the "File" menu and select "Manage Modules". Image
- Click the "Add Module" button. Find and select the WuiWlink_1.dll file. Image
- Click "okay" several times until all of the dialog windows close. Image
- Restart WeatherLink. Image
TO SETUP THE MODULE
- Select "Wunderground Settings" from the "File" menu.
- Enter your weather station ID and password, and the frequency of updates. You can find your Weather Station ID from: My Stations. Your password is the password you use to login to the wunderground.com site. Image
- If you wish, click the "Test" button, and an observation will be sent. A dialog will appear indicating whether the operation was successful.
That's it. If your station is connected, it should start uploading observations using the new module.
TROUBLESHOOTING
IF FOR ANY REASON WeatherLink becomes unstable, or if the module is uploading garbage data, simply remove the module:
- click the "File" menu and select "Manage Modules". Select the WuiWlink_1.dll module and click "Disable Module" or "Delete Module".
Weather Underground Heavyweather Uploader (WUHU)
From the main screen of WUHU, check the box to the right of Weather Underground Account Information to enable.
Enter your Station ID and Password as provided by Weather Underground. Optionally enable "Rapid-Fire" updates. Image
Additional Notes: Observations
The Observation button was added to the main screen that will allow you to upload weather observations to Weather Underground. The observations are optional and will have no effect on uploading weather data to Weather Underground.
To enter a report, simply click the Observation button. There are two sections, one for reporting clouds and the other is for reporting weather phenomena. Select the conditions for each area then click the 'Create Report' button. If the 'Report' edit box is not blank, that information will be uploaded to Weather Underground.
You may report both cloud layer observations and weather observations simultaneously. You need not report weather phenomena if there is no such condition.
The reports will be uploaded for a period of one hour. After one hour, the report is no longer uploaded. This auto-expiration of the report is done to keep the information timely. Otherwise, if you reported a thunderstorm and did not update the observation, it would remain indefinitely.
Please refrain from uploading any remarks that do not comply with the Metar data specification (use correct terminology).
For additional information, see the Metar data specification from Wikipedia.
